Against the backdrop of the devastating magnitude of this year’s flood on some parts of Delta State, especially as it affects Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Local Government Areas, the APC Senatorial Candidate for Delta Central, Olorogun Ede Dafinone, has called on the Federal and State governments to urgently come to the aid of the victims.

Dafinone who made this call at Ewu during his visits to several internally-displaced persons, IDP’s, camp in Delta Central, lamented that thousands of affected persons were in dire need of relief materials to alleviate their suffering at this critical moment.

The Senatorial candidate who visited IDP’s camps in Ewu, Oguname-Olomu and Otu-jeremi communities in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, however presented various food items ranging from rice, salt, garri, noodles, yams, palm oil amongst others to the victims.

Addressing the victims at Ewu, Dafinone encouraged them to have hope, adding that his contribution was just to mitigate their suffering as, according to him, they “need urgent attention since their homes, crops and source of livelihood have been destroyed.”

He further encouraged the displaced persons that the flood would recede in no distant time to enable them return to their homes and start normal life again.

He therefore called on the Federal, State governments as well as good-spirited Deltans and NGOs to come to the aid of the victims “not just to provide food but to see how they can be rehabilitated to to commence their normal lives again”, since they have lost everything they have worked for to the ravaging flood

Accepting the foodstuff on behalf of the victims, Mrs. Jane Odogun, who solicited for more donations.

“Some of us no longer have homes, our crops are dead as a result of the flood and we want to appeal with the government leaders to help us. We need medical care especially the children”, she lamented.

The President-General of Ewu Communities, Prof Arthur Ekpekpo, who accepted the foodstuffs on behalf of Ewu communities thanked the Delta Central Senatorial Candidate for the foodstuffs, insisting the communities still need more, because the disaster that befell the communities was of a massive proportion.

At Oguname-Olomu, where over 6 presidents of communities in Olomu Kingdom and other kingdoms Presidents representatives welcomed the entourage, the chairman of the forum, Mr. Oviri Aragata, while appreciating Dafinone, said “On behalf of the people of Olomu, I want to say thank you for meeting our needs in times of difficulties. All that you seek God will support. The items you brought will be of great relief to those affected by the flood”

Earlier Dafinone has expressed how bad he felt when he heard about the flooding, adding that “our contribution might be little but we just hope it gets to the people affected directly.”

Accompanied by his campaign team led by the Campaign Director General, Chief Adelabu Bodjor, Chief Dafinone at Life City Camp in Ewu encouraged them with messages of hope and love.
