Leader of a militant group which has been terrorizing the creeks in Delta State, simply known as N.K, may have been killed in a clash between his gang and a security outfit made up of ex-militant peace keepers, the Creek Dragons.

N.K and his gang who have been terrorizing parts of Warri South-West and Warri North local government areas of Delta State, was engaged in a shootout with the Creek Dragons who have been engaged in ensuring peace and safety in the waterways.

According to the report, N.K who has been allegedly involved in piracy and kidnapping for ransoms in different parts of the Niger Delta creeks, escaped with his gang after the shoot-out, but the Delta Dragons went after him, combing their suspected hideouts.

An anonymous source told The New Diplomat, that four of the N.K boys were killed in the shoot-)out, adding that N.K himself, was suspected to have been killed in the confrontation. “A corpse suspected to be that of N.K has been found but because it has already swollen and decomposing, it has been difficult to properly identify him,” the source said.

The New Diplomat had reported about three months ago, the alleged killing of some soldiers and some ex-militant security vigilantes, by hoodlums suspected to be members of the N.K gang, at a military base in Obodo Community in Warri South Local Government Area, a situation which made the Army Joint Task Force, JTF, to impose a lockdown on some parts of Egbema kingdom in Warri North in a bid to track him down.

Few days after the lockdown was eased by the JTF, N.K and his gangs were said to have struck again, this time, allegedly killing at least six members of the ex-militant vigilante (Delta Dragons) believed to be Tompolo’s loyal boys.

Our source disclosed that since July when the incident happened, N.K and his gang have gone into hiding but on Saturday October 23, 2021, the two groups clashed in a heavy shootout which, according to the source, led to the death of four of N.K boys.

The source said that the decomposing corpse of one members of the gang suspected to be that of N.K has been found, adding that “it has not been fully identified.”

The New Diplomat gathered that N.K, as he is simply referred to, “was initially operating in Lagos area from where he was dislodged and he relocated to Ondo State but ended up in Egbema kingdom where he set up a militant camp from where he visits mayhem to the communities kidnapping and collecting ransoms from his victims”

“In Egbema, he turned a terror, kidnapping hostages and collecting various ransoms from people and all efforts to rein him proved abortive.

“Leaders of Egbema ordered him to leave the kingdom but he refused, prompting them to report his escapades to Tompolo, who called a peace meeting, but he declined to show up.

However, mid July, six members of the Egbema Kingdom Peace Keepers were killed by the notorious militant leader, kidnapper and pirate, N.K, the Executive chairman of Warri North Local Government Council, Hon. Smart Asekutu told The New Diplomat.

He said: “It is not nine persons that were killed, I think they are about six. The boy (N.K) has been causing security challenges for us in the local government and the present lock down by the army has the support of the local government council because security agents have to track him down before he commits more havoc.”

When contacted the Spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, Mr. Bright Dafe, told The New Diplomat, “I was not aware of anything like that.”
