- Says APC’s journey to Govt House, Asaba just started
The Delta Central APC Senatorial primary has been concluded with Chief Ede Dafinone clinching the ticket with 383 votes unopposed.
Announcing the result of the election which took place at the Ughelli kingdom Hall today, May 28, the Returning Officer and leader of the Election Committee from Abuja, Mr. Prince Eke, said Dafinone who was the sole aspirant of the party scored a total of 383 votes out of 387 delegates accredited for the exercise, adding that there were 4 void votes recorded.
He thanked the delegates for the orderly manner they conducted themselves, adding that he was happy that the exercise ended peacefully. He therefore declared Chief Ede Dafinone the winner of the APC Delta Central Senatorial primary election.
In his acceptance speech, Dafinone thanked God for the smooth primary, just as he thanked the party National Election Committee, adding that they have done excellently well.
He also thanked the delegates and leaders of the party for their commitment, adding that he was happy the procedure was calm and cordial.
Dafinone also commended the INEC official who were present to observe the exercise.
“I would like to dedicate today to the almighty for the smooth and cordial atmosphere for today’s primary.
“I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the team from APC headquarters that conducted the primary today. They have done an excellent job, the procedure was calm and cordial.
“We were all here to witness it today, both the delegates and leaders of the APC in Delta Central.
“I want to say that today marks the beginning of a journey; a journey towards the victory of our party in Delta State for the governor, for the President, for the Senate, for the House of Reps and for the House of Assembly.
“I want to assure all of you here today that I will do my best to ensure we return all APC candidates in 2023.
“I cannot forget to thank the INEC officials and Security agents that are here today”, he said.
Fielding questions from newsmen shortly after the occasion, Chief Dafinone said that it was time to embark on the journey for the main election, adding that “the main election is February 2023 and we have to embark on that journey now.”
“We will embark on sensitizing the people on the mission of APC in Delta; we will embark on maximum registration of Deltans to vote for APC in 2023”, he added.
Also interacting with newsmen on the sideline, a chieftain and leader of the party in Uvwie Local Government Area who was also one of the ad hoc delegates, Chief Tuesday Onoge said that it was time for the APC to take over the governance of Delta State, adding that the 24 years of the PDP in the State was a collosal waste resources.
He gave assurance that Chief Ede Dafinone would be a perfect Senator to take over from the incumbent, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege in 2023.
“You know we have a sitting Senator there now who is performing excellently. So Urhobo cannot afford to take somebody to the Senate who is not as good as Ovie Omo-Agege.
“Therefore I congratulate those who wanted to buy the ticket but realized that only Dafinone can actually represent Urhobo well just like what Omo-Agege is doing now.
“And I also want to thank Ede Dafinone for today’s victory. I can assure you it’s going to be victory and victory all the way.
On what is giving him the assurance, Onoge said “if you go into the streets now, the people will tell you that they are tired of the PDP.
“By the end of May next year PDP would have ruled this state for 24 years.
“The road from Ughelli to Asaba has been under construction for 14 years; the road from Effurun to Eku has been under construction for at least ten years now. And nothing is not being done.
“Recently we are told that the governor was going to borrow N150 billion to do what? To rig election for friends and whatever.
“So, everybody is fed up. There are other States in the South South which are oil-producing. But in the last eight.years, Delta has been receiving the highest revenue from oil. But there is nothing to show for it.
“Go to Rivers, go to Akwa Ibom, even go to Ebonyi State and see what development is all about. Surprisingly, these States are still PDP States. These are the reason why APC must take over the State in 2023. I can assure you”, he concluded.
