Barely two weeks to the State Congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, the Deputy President of Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has inaugurated a 7-man Committee to investigate the myriads of complaints that have trailed the proposed zoning of the State executives of the party prior to the Congress slated for October 2, 2021.
A few weeks ago, the Delta State APC Caretaker Committee headed by Prophet Jones Ode Erue had released the zoning list for the st key offices state key offices in the forthcoming State Congress in which the State chairmanship office was zoned to Delta Central, while the Deputy Chairmanship position was zoned to Delta North Senatorial District of the State and the Secretary of the party zoned to Delta South Senatorial District.
The New Diplomat learnt that the seeming grievances brewing up against the zoning list as released by the Erue-led Caretaker Committee, among other offices, was as a result of the office of the State woman leader which was retained in the Delta Central.
Against the backdrop of the grumblings, the leader of the APC in the State and Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege on Saturday, inaugurated a 7-man Committee to look into the grievances expressed by a handful of members of the party.
In a statement personally signed by the Deputy President of the Senate, it indicates that the Committee has Senator Peter Nwaoboshi as chairman while Hon. Stella Okotete serves as the Secretary. Other members of the Committee include Hon Halims Agoda, Surv. Peter Akarogbe, Comr. Austin Oribioye, Barr Gabriel Yabaka and Barr Francis Obigbo.
According to the statement, the Committee has up till September 25 to submit its report which, The New Diplomat learnt, will be communicated to the State APC Caucus for ratification before the October 2 APC state Congress.
Commenting on the development, a chieftain of the party who preferred not to be mentioned, stated that as a leader of the party in the State, it is incumbent on the Deputy President of the Senate to resolve internal disagreement in the party to ensure a successful State Congress.
“The Committee is going to look into the zoning of the state offices and if they can justify it so be it. But if they cannot justify it, they will have to tamper with it.
“The major thing about this is that, in line with the zoning released, offices presently in Delta South should move to Delta Central while offices in Delta Central should move to Delta North and offices in Delta North to move to Delta South.
“As for the zoning of the chairmanship to Delta Central, I don’t think there is anything wrong in that. I think the controversy is that the office of the Woman Leader which has been in Delta Central ought to move to Delta North in line with the zoning of state offices. This should be one of those issues which the 7-man Committee will look into it”, he said.
The State Congress of the party which is expected to produce the next State Working Committee has been scheduled to hold on October 2, 2021.
