A tragic incident occurred near Washington, D.C, United States, where more than 60 people are currently feared dead after an aircraft collided with a US Army Black Hawk helicopter, and subsequently crashed into the Potomac River near Reagan Washington National Airport.

The incident involved American Eagle Flight 5342, which was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members, and the helicopter, which had three soldiers on board. The crash occurred as the jet was approaching land.

This event has been described as one of the deadliest US air disasters in recent times, with no survivors currently believed to be present.

Rescue operations have been positioned carrying out recovery efforts, with 28 bodies already recovered from the crash site.

The District of Columbia fire chief John Donnelly, who addressed a press conference at the airport on Thursday, expressed concerns that there might not be any survivors.
He stated: “At this point, we do not believe there were any survivors.”

Donnelly said 28 bodies had been recovered from the river so far, adding that: “We will work to find all the bodies and reunite them with their loved ones,” he added.
