Nigerian singer, David Adedeji Adeleke (a.k.a Davido) in a recent interview with CNN spoke about the huge donations he got from Nigerians.
Speaking with CNN host, Zain Asher, Davido said he was just addressing his friends and the people in whose songs he had featured when he made the announcement.
He added that he didn’t expect as much money as he got. He said it was all a joke but people came through, including ordinary Nigerians who were sending what they could afford.
“I never said ‘donate money to me’, I said ‘if you’re my friend give me money’,” he explained.
Davido had, on November 17, 2021 requested that his friends gave him money. The announcement however raked in over $600,000, (N200million) following which he set up a five-man committee to disburse same to money to orphanages across Nigeria.
