On Saturday evening, Dakkada FC upset Kano Pillars with a late victory at the Nest of Champions, Uyo on NPFL Match Day 11.

Kano Pillars dominated play for the most part of the game, but they were unable to see the back of the host net despite many attempts.

The closest danger Kano Pillars posed was Ifeanyi Eze’s one-on-one attack against Dakkada goalkeeper, Thomas Omokhudu in the 45th minute. Thomas’ fingertip save was still crawling towards the goal line as Boniface Nwaeze made a timely intervention to clear the ball.

Two minutes later the host, Dakkada had a similar opportunity but Pillars goalkeeper saved the day just before the centre referee indicated halftime.

Kano Pillar continued to exert influence in the second half until the 80th minute when Dakkada came in with a free kick about 20 yards from the goal mouth.

Kano Pillar goalkeeper, Joshua Enaholo couldn’t contain the power in Unwana Asuquo’s free-kick and spilt it as a substitute, Bashiru reacts with his left foot shot into the goal.

The deadlock was broken, Musa Bashiru scored the 83rd minute’s goal that celebrated Dakkada’s return from home match ban.

The game ended 1-0 in favour of the home team despite the visitor’s several scoring chances.

Dakkada FC Coach, Umar Danladi believes “Kano Pillar is a good team and respected that” by playing with caution and getting the required result.

“I think we put little consciousness to it so that we do not forget our responsibility. Generally what we expected is what we saw. That gave us the insight on how to manoeuvre and get the game in our favour.” Coach Umar told the press.

Dakkada gaffer was delighted to return to “home sweet home ” with victory against the northern football giant.

However, the visitor’s overseer was stunned by the outcome at the end of 90 minutes. “We didn’t expect this result we aimed to come here for a win. Our target was to get 3 points but we missed our scoring chances.” Coach Ibrahim Musa said.

Kano Pillars handler admitted his team conceded the lone goal due to defensive error.

“We lost concentration, our aim is to come here to win because we had a draw in our last match at home so our target was to get the 3 points. We were supposed to finish the game in the first half even the second half we missed our scoring chances.” Coach Ibrahim Musa disclosed.

Despite the shocking loss, Ibrahim encourages himself that it is not late to get back to winning ways.

“Pillars is a big team in Nigeria we are not supposed lose any game like this and we need to win away matches.”
