The local government elections slated for October 26 in Cross River state has been postponed to November 2, 2024.
The announcement was made by the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) boss, Ekong Boko on Friday after stakeholders’ meeting that lasted for hours in Calabar.

Cross-River state has 18 local government areas and 196 wards and the elections would have taken in all the local government if it was not postponed.

Speaking on the reason for the development, Boco said the one-week postponement would ensure adequate preparation that will result in a fair and credible electoral process,
He noted that campaign activities will end on November 1, a day before the election.
Boco disclosed that the commission had agreed to lower nomination fees following an appeal from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC).

According to Boco, the fee for Chairmanship positions has been reduced from N5,000,000 (Five Million Naira) to N1,000,000 (One Million Naira), while the fee for Councillorship positions has decreased from N1,000,000 (One Million Naira) to N200,000 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira).
