The qualification of the Super Eagles of Nigeria for the 2026 World Cup is currently in jeopardy due to a recent crisis that has caused significant internal division within the national team.

This is as Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has called out Findi George who just resigned from his position as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles.

The Striker who had a meltdown on Instagram Live lambasted Findi for making a scapegoat for the poor performance of the Super Eagles in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Osimhen in a six-minute-long rant on social media wondered why Findi would go to the press to say he doesn’t want to play for the national team.

Finidi, a former coach of Enyimba FC, during an interview with the press, had claimed it was impossible to take disciplinary action against certain players.

He had knocked Osimhen for picking and choosing which games he was available for.

However, reacting to the comment, Osimhen said Finidi was briefed on the nature of his injury by the doctors.

He said: “I called Finidi George when he was appointed and told him: ‘Let’s do great things together.’

“I call my teammates before the match to encourage them but after two bad games, everyone is blaming me and I wasn’t even part of the team!

“I got injured in the last minute of our last match. I had an ankle injury that was confirmed on an MRI scan.

“I won’t allow disrespect from anybody. I won’t allow that stain from anyone.

“I always play my heart out for Nigeria.

“I know how many injuries I’ve played with for Nigeria and I played my heart out, but after two bad games, everybody is attacking me.”

The New Diplomat reports that this is coming a few hours after Finidi tendered his resignation as Head Coach of the Super Eagles.

Finidi’s tenure saw him lead the team in just two matches against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and Benin Republic’s Cheatahs in the 2026 World Cup qualification series.

The Super Eagles suffered a setback with a 2-1 defeat to the Benin Republic at the Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on Monday, followed by a 1-1 draw with South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, last Friday.
