The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has reacted to rumours making the rounds that President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari had been sacked.
Kyari’s purported sack letter surfaced on the social media, Wednesday. The letter was said to have been from the SGF office, announcing the sack of Buhari’s Chief of Staff who is currently receiving medical attention after contracting Coronavirus amid initial controversy over the non-disclosure of his COVID-19 test result.
The purported sack letter which was widely circulated online partly read: “The termination of the appointment of Mr. Abba Kyari took immediate effect. And the President has appointed Alhaji Babagana Kingibe as the new Chief of Staff (CoS).
“The President thanked Mr Abba Kyari for his absolute loyalty to him and to the nation during the period he served as his CoS. He prayed to God for his speedy recovery.”
However, the SGF, Mustapha said the letter is fake and that nothing of such originated from his office.
Recall the Chief of Staff tested positive for the contagion–Covid-19 and his whereabouts is currently a subject of controversy, notwithstanding the fact that he had earlier announced in a long epistle, saying he was going to be in Lagos for self-isolation and treatment.
The SGF, who spoke through the Director of Information, Office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Willie Bassey, told newsmen that the report Kyari’s sack was not true and should be disregarded.
According to him, the statement is a “Fake news” as the Office of the SGF does not sign releases like the one in circulation.
“Is this how we send our releases? Have you ever sighted a release ever written by the SGF? I am not aware of the claim,” Bassey said.
