To provide succour to struggling households following the Covid-19 pandemic, a socio-cultural and non-profit group, Ndiuhu Progressive Like Minds (NPLM) has delivered relief materials to people in Ndiuhu Village Ụmụegbe in Alaenyi Ogwa Autonomous Community, Imo State.

The relief materials include bags of rice, yams, cartons of Noodles among other palliatives. According to the organization, it is made up of progressive sons, daughters, and wives of the Ndiuhu Ụmụegbe community, in South East Nigeria.

The group  in a statement said it became imperative to assist their people at home against the serious hunger and starvation ravaging many global communities as fall-outs of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Donating the items, Chairman of the group’s Palliative Committee, Emeka Onugha, said the group’s goodwill action was to give back to a community that has done a lot for members.

Onugha, a pioneer member of Ndiuhu Progressive Like Minds thanked other members of the group for their support: “What will it profit a man with all his riches while his brothers and sisters are dying in hunger? It is better to give than to receive, that is the bible. I have been into charity work for 24 years, starting in 1996. And I want to use the rest of my life for Charity work. I want to thank other Ndiuhu Umuegbe family who supported this program. This means we can do a lot more for our community.”

The Administrative Officer of Ndiuhu Progressive Like Minds, Chief Nnorom Sam C. poured encomiums on the members of the group for thinking towards alleviating the sufferings of their people, noting that they are the true heroes of the moment.

Similarly, Mr. Augustine Uwandu another illustrious son of the land who is also the Lagos branch Chairman of Ụmụegbe Progressive Union (UPU), congratulated the Ndiuhu family and other kindred around Ụmụegbe and the entire Ogwa Clan, who have extended their hands of fellowship to their people at home.

Speaking on phone, he said: “The action is in line with the objective of Ụmụegbe, which is to be your brother’s keeper and as the Chairman of Ụmụegbe people in Lagos, I am committed to driving other well-meaning Ụmụegbe members to always support their families when the needs arise.”

President General of Ndiuhu Village, Mr. Simeon Enwerem described the event as the first of its kind. “We have not seen anything like this before. Our people have really made us proud. It is not an easy thing to think towards home in this critical period, which is what these our sons and daughters have done,” he said.

Enwerem called on all well-meaning sons and daughters of Ndiuhu to identify with Ndiuhu Progressive Like Minds, while also asking for God’s blessing. Also, the Lady President of Ndiuhu Women Wing, Deaconess Ifeoma Ụzọma described members of NPLM as very patriotic citizens of the community. She prayed to God to sustain them through all their endeavours.

Expressing gratitude for the kind gestures, the Youth Leader of Ndiuhu Village, Francis Emenalom said the gestures has challenged community youths to contribute their own quota to the development of the community.

Administrative Officer of Ndiuhu Progressive Like Minds, Chief Nnorom Sam C. noted that the group was formed out of a necessity to raise funds and support natives at home during hard times like the Covid-19 crisis.

According to Nnorom plans are underway by Ndiuhu Progressive Like Minds, to empower the youths and women in various  endeavours.  While distributing the relief items, the entire people of Ndiuhu Ụmụegbe trooped out en mass at the  front of the community’s Civic center to pray for all members of Ndiuhu Progressive Like Minds for alleviating their sufferings.
