Factional President-General of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, Chief Joe Omene has again assured all Urhobo sons and daughters, both at home and in the Diaspora, that the Coronavirus pandemic that is presently ravaging the  world would never come near the dwelling of the Urhobo nation, saying the sickness is not for them.

Chief Omene who was addressing a cross section of Urhobo people in his country home in Mosogar, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State on Monday, March 31, 2020,  stressed that though the virus has killed many worldwide, “it will never get near the dwelling of the sons and daughters of Urhobo nation.”

He said: “Since the outbreak of the virus worldwide, it has not infected any Urhobo both at home and in the Diaspora, and it will not infect anyone till it will end its lifespan.

“Since the outbreak of the disease I have spoken with a number of UPU leaders in different parts of the world. Our brother who is the President of UPU in Austria,  Andrew Uyoh, I have talked with him.

“Another of our brother who is the President of UPU in Italy, where the disease has killed many, Mr. Tuoyo, I have spoken with him and he said they are all well but they are all at home.

“As for those of us here at home, through the grace of God, we are all sound also.”  The UPU President-General urged Urhobos to be courageous, strong and be of good cheers, adding that they must believe in the power of God without which nothing works.  He also enjoined Urhobo to heed the instruction of government to stay at home

“Our heart should be strong because we have faith in God. No matter how difficult a situation is, it must become simple later.

“The government has instructed Nigerians to stay at home for the period. We must try and stay at home because of the safety of our lives.

“Those of us who rely on our daily jobs to feed must at this time try to live and manage our savings.  “I thank every Urhobo for our faith in God because in one’s life if you do not give God the premier position, our effort will be in vain.

“I’m confident that it is our trust in God and our obedience to His commands that have sustained our lives till today” Chief Omene said.  He declared that Coronavirus has no place in the lives of Urhobo, thanking God for keeping it far from the Urhobos.

He said: “This sickness is not for the Urhobos. We thank God that He has made it opposible for it not to get to Urhobo land.  Wherever it is overseas it must remain there.  “I also thank Urhobos in Diaspora that they should remain strong. They will surely meet us well and alive whenever they come home.”

Earlier, Chief Omene had thanked God for His Mercy for the Urhobo people, noting that even when the disease has been ravaging most part of the world, it has not reportedly found its way into  Urhobo land.
