Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and his Ekiti state counterpart, Kayode Fayemi have gone into self-isolation after having contact with confirmed cases of the Coronavirus.

Following his close contact with the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Muhammed and Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, who have both tested positive for coronavirus, Obaseki took the self quarantine measure.

In a statement, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr Crusoe Osagie, said the governor has sent his samples for testing.

Osagie said: “The governor has gone into self-isolation after the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed and Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, tested positive for coronavirus.

“The governor had met Senator Mohammed at the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and National Economic Council (NEC) meetings. He also visited Mr Kyari.”

He said although the governor is not showing any symptoms of the virus, he has taken the necessary precaution to self-isolate to protect people that may otherwise come in contact with him.

Similarly, the Ekiti Governor, Fayemi, announced on Wednesday that he is now in self-isolation after taking the COVID-19 test.

Fayemi who is also the Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum stated he was in contact with two people who had since tested positive. The governor who did not disclose the two people said he is currently not showing any of the COVID-19 symptoms which include coughing, fever, and difficulty in breathing.

“I just took a CoviD 19 test, having gone into self isolation since yesterday evening. I’m asymptomatic and feel well, but I was in meetings with two people who had since tested positive.

“I look forward to an all clear and have encouraged all my colleagues to take the test,” the governor posted on his Twitter handle.
