From John Oghojafor ( The New Diplomat’s South South Bureau Chief )

After several weeks of the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus, also known as Covid-19 across some states in the country, the first confirmed case in Delta State has been recorded.
Although the identity of the victim is still shrouded in secrecy, the Nigeria Centre of Disease Control, NCDC, announced the recorded first case in the state yesterday.
Reacting to the news of the outbreak, the state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa who was visibly shaken, promised to address the state later today.
Although the identity of the index is still hazy at the time of this report, the first information that went viral in the social media pointed to a Delta State lawmaker from Ughelli North Local Government Area who was said to have returned from Germany recently.
Shortly after the news associating the confirmed case with lawmaker, another version of the identity of the victim hit the social media space, pointing to one Augustine, who allegedly arrived from Germany, about one month ago.
A source told our correspondent that the said Augustine has been self isolated in his residence in the Bendel Estate area of Effurun, Delta State pending the result of his blood test.
Another side to this report as gathered by our correspondent, stated that the index has been isolated in a private hospital in Warri until when his case became worse and was recently transferred to the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara.
All effort to get the reaction of the Delta State lawmaker who was said to hail from Ughelli has proved abortive as he neither pick his calls nor respond to our sms.
It would be recalled that Delta State has until now maintained the status of a virus free state.
Gov. Okowa had on April 1, ordered a total lockdown in the state for two weeks and the lockdown has barely lasted one week before the first outbreak was reported.
Our correspondent reports that with the latest report of the outbreak in the state, the governor might consider an extension of the lockdown.
