Shortly after Nigeria moved into phase two of easing the lockdown protocol instituted to flatten the curve of the novel coronavirus pandemic, the country, on Monday recorded 416 new cases of COVID-19 infections, its second-highest in a day.

The new cases were confirmed by the specialist agency, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) via its official Twitter handle.

This figure takes the country’s total number of infections to 10,578 out of which 3,122 have been discharged with 299 fatalities.

Data from the NCDC showed that the cases were spread across 19 states and the FCT, with Lagos accounting for the highest number of infections for the day with 192 cases.

Lagos was followed by Edo with 41 cases, Rivers 33, Kaduna 30, and Kwara with 23 cases.

Others were Nasarawa with 18 new infections, Borno 17, FCT 14, Oyo 10, Katsina 7, Abia, and Delta States with 5 cases each.

Adamawa had 4 cases, same as Kano 4, Imo and Ondo with 3 cases each. The trio of Benue, Bauchi, and Ogun had 2 cases each while Niger recorded 1 case.
