The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has reaffirmed its neutrality in the lingering crisis rocking Rivers State.
The organisation stated this while denying claims that it had called on the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, to commence impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.
Ohanaeze N’digbo emphasized that it had no position on the political crisis in the state, adding that the report did not originate from the socio-cultural organisation.
This followed the Supreme Court verdict on Friday, which reinstated the sacked pro-Nyesom Wike lawmakers, including Speaker Martin Amaewhule.
The Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr Ezechi Chukwu, dismissed the claim that the organisation had called for Fubara’s impeachment in a statement issued on Saturday.
He said, “That statement didn’t emanate from us. We don’t know anything about it; we don’t have any position on this matter, and we have nothing to say about it.
“We are not associated with it. Members of the public, including the media, should always be careful about where they get information. They must verify any information.”
On Saturday, a purported faction of the Ohanaeze N’digbo issued a statement calling for the pro-Wike Rivers State Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings against governor Fubara following favourable Supreme Court ruling to the group.
