  • Grants VeryDarkMan N2m Bail

By Abiola Olawale

Popular social media activist Martins Otse, best known as VeryDarkMan, has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Abuja over alleged unauthorised use of police uniform.

VeryDarkMan appeared before the court on Friday after he was detained by the police on Thursday.

Following his arraignment, VeryDarkMan’s legal counsel, Deji Ayedanju applied for bail.

After arguments from both sides, the Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja granted VeryDarkMan N2m bail.

Ayedanju gave these updates while speaking with the press shortly after court proceedings.

He stated that the court ruled that the sureties are to provide means of identification and depose to an affidavit to provide the defendant during trial at all times.

He added that the court ordered that the prosecutor should verify the sureties’ addresses while the sureties will also provide their utility bills.

He stated: “Two million, two sureties in like terms. Sureties to deposit international passports, sureties to provide means of Identification. Sureties to depose to an affidavit to provide the defendant during a trial at all times.

“Prosecutor to verify sureties’ address. Sureties to provide utility bills, defendant to depose to an affidavit to be available at all times during the trial. Sureties to reside within the Court’s jurisdiction, particularly Abuja municipal.”

It would be recalled that VeryDarkMan came under fire after police launched an investigation into his use of police uniform.

The police accused the activist of using the uniform without getting appropriate approvals.

Following the development, VeryDarkMan, in a video he posted on his social media apologised for his actions and inactions.

The social media influencer professed lack of awareness of the protocol, stating he didn’t know police permission was required to wear police uniforms or other similar ones.

He, therefore, cautioned fellow content creators to obtain necessary clearance from law enforcement before using similar uniforms for content purposes.
