A mother has allegedly assaultedl the Vice Principal of Nana Model College in Warri, Delta State, for scolding her daughter over sex- related practice in the school premises.

The New Diplomat gathered that the mother, a serving councillor in Warri South Local Government Area, also threatened to sue the Vice Principal.

A source told The New Diplomat that the daughter, identified as Praise Moses, in SSS1c in the school, was seen in a classroom with a boy after school hours in a compromising situation.

The mother who was invited and briefed on the development, however reportedly challenged the gate man who reported her daughter, threatening that her husband, a Mobile Policeman, would deal with the gate man.

In the ensuing uproar, the woman was said to have held the cloth of the Vice Principal and used her shoe on the Vice Principal.

“The daughter was seen in a classroom with a boy after school, around 4pm. They locked themselves in the classroom making love and the gate man saw them and reported the issue to the management.

“The girl gave a false name that could not be traced to any class, but was eventually found out.

“Her mother was invited and the VP gave the details of what happened. The mother begged and they told her to fix the key of the class that her daughter forced open, and she agreed.

“On her way out of the school, she went to the gate man and challenged him for reporting her daughter, which generated issues among them. She told the gate man that her husband is Mobile Policeman and threatened to use her husband to deal with the gate man.

“The gate man reported the new development, while the woman and the daughter followed him.

“On getting there, the daughter started insulting the Vice Principal. The VP said ‘You small rat, you are abusing me’, from there the woman held the cloth of the VP trying to tear it and also used her shoe on the Vice Principal.”

Confirming the incident, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Warri South Chapter, Comrade Omagbemi Gladys, told The New Diplomat that she was aware of the incident… noting that they were on top of the matter.

She said: “Police was invited that day and they took the woman to their station. Because the woman is a councillor, she wanted to do one or two things, but the station DPO Immediately charged her to court. The first hearing is scheduled for 16th of December 2021.

“The Union also went to Warri South Local Government Chairman to inform him of what was going on,” she added.

However, New Diplomat also gathered that that was not the first time teachers would be harassed in the school.

A source recounted how, last year, a parent came to the school to beat up a male teacher because his child was disciplined.

The source also mentioned one Kingsley Maduka, an SSS2c student, who had allegedly fought more than three teachers in the same school— the third being a chemistry teacher (youth corp member) identified simply as Segun.

The source lamented that the school (and many others in Delta State) had now lost its standard because of intimidation from some parents who are connected to politicians, traditional or community leaders or even top ministry officials.
