The 2023 general election is around the corner. Standard bearers have emerged from most political parties while their supporters have upped their game in promoting their candidates to the electorate.

Unfortunately, not every communications expert understands the import of positive image laundering of their clients. They would rather dissipate energy on politics of calumny, bitterness, character assassination and name-calling of opponents.

The recent interview by Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Communications where he placed the Deputy Senate President and governorship candidate of Delta APC, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege side-by-side with the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly and PDP governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, is to say the least, insulting, demeaning, offensive, repulsive and disrespectful.

The fact that a ‘certificateless’ Oborevwori, the worst Speaker since the creation of the state over three decades ago, could emerge as gubernatorial candidate of a political party like PDP, is another sad reminder that things have fallen apart, “the centre cannot hold”.

Comparing Omo-Agege to PDP governorship candidate and rubber stamp Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is to compare apples with oranges. While the former has risen from being a Honorable Commissioner for Special Duties in the Cabinet of former Governor James Ibori to Secretary to the State Government and the nation’s Number Six Citizen and Chairman, Senate Committee on Review of the 1999 Constitution, the latter has been known largely as a motor park tout popularly called ‘Agbero’ until he was made Special Assistant on Land Security in Warri during the immediate past administration. And Okowa now ensured his emergence as Speaker which has done more harm than good to the good people of Delta State. Who did we offend?

It is most irresponsible to compare Sheriff to Omo-Agege. The PDP governorship candidate is a politician under whose leadership as Speaker, the State House of Assembly has become an appendage of the Okowa administration. This is man who is working in cahoot with Gov. Okowa to run the state aground by approving a whooping N150 billion loan to his godfather at the twilight of his government.

Let’s be clear: the worsening crime rate, decaying infrastructure, sky-rocketing unemployment and overwhelming poverty crippling the oil-rich state can be attributed to the cluelessness of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration and the ill-equipped and inexperienced Speaker Sheriff Oborevwori. Little wonder the former singlehandedly picked the latter as PDP governorship candidate. “Birds of same feather”, they say, “flock together”.

Deltans are wiser now! They know that Sheriff is a bad product, rotten mango. And no amount of deodorant can cleanse the stench oozing from him. At this juncture, it is not if Sheriff would be defeated by Omo-Agege but he would roundly be trounced, crushed, subdued, routed, annihilated, beaten black and blue and lose his deposit in the 2023 Delta guber poll as Deltans can now see that Governor Okowa still wants to pillage the resources of Delta State through his surrogate, Sheriff!

N150BN loan, with no roads and Deltans are suffering is the height of wickedness and blind pillage of the commonwealth of Deltans! That is why we urge all Deltans to chase out Okowa and his stooge come 2023!
