The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has denied issuing a viral message announcing an increment in the price of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as Petrol.

The Managing Director of the NNPCL Retail, Huub Stokman, clarified that the statement making rounds on social media is fake and unauthorised.

This came after it was observed that the pump price of petrol had been increased from N617/litre to N897/litre.

Checks revealed that several NNPCL retail outlets in Abuja had jerked up pump prices to N897 per litre, while some of the NNPCL stations in Lagos State increased price to N855 per litre.

However, in a short message to Journalists, Stokman clarified that the message was not sent by the company and should be disregarded.

The statement reads in part: “This message was not sent by us. The Corporate Communications team will lead any messages as usual. Please disregard any information suggesting a price hike.”

The NNPC Retail Corporate Communications team also urged the public to rely only on official channels for information regarding fuel prices and other important updates.
