A magistrate court situated in Ado-Ekiti has decided to postpone its ruling on the bail application filed by a prominent human rights activist, Dele Farotimi.

The presiding magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, ruled that his decision on the matter will be deferred until December 20.

The ruling means that Farotimi will remain in prison custody until the next hearing.

Before the ruling, the legal counsel of Farotimi, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika filed a motion asking the court to dismiss the 16-count charge earlier filed by the police against his client.

Farotimi, through his legal counsel, argued that the charge before the court is unknown to law and the court is acting without jurisdiction against an incompetent charge.

Meanwhile, it would be recalled that the latest court judgment comes after, a federal high court in Ekiti granted Farotimi N50 million bail with one surety, following a 12-count charge bordering on cybercrime filed by the inspector-general of police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Farotimi is currently facing trial in two courts on charges bordering on the alleged defamation of Afe Babalola, a senior advocate of Nigeria(SAN) and foremost lawyer.
