Two prominent politicans and allies of the Ondo State governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa have resigned their positions in the legislature of the ‘Sunshine State’.
The lawmakers are Abayomi Akinruntan and Ogunmolasuyi who, until their resignation early this morning (Tuesday), were the Deputy Speaker and Majority Leader of the state assembly.
Akinruntan represents Ilaje Constituency 1, while Ogunmolasuyi represents Owo Constituency 1; both are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
It was gathered that the duo announced their decision to vacate their positions on the floor of the House during Tuesday’s plenary session, which was presided over by the Speaker, Mr Olamide Oladiji.
Disclosing the reason for his move, Akinruntan cited political power-sharing arrangements within the state as the reason for his resignation.
Ogunmolasuyi had not revealed the reason for his decision.
Meanwhile, the assembly has switchly selected Mr Ololade Gbegudu, representing Okitipupa Constituency 2, as the new Deputy Speaker, while Mr Olatunji Oshati, from Ose State Constituency, has assumed the role of Majority Leader.
This developments have left many confused concerning what could be the real reason for the legislators’ actions as the state is not preparing for any major election.
