Top Nigerian businesswoman and Oil magnate, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija, has reportedly lost her sight following some health complications.

According to reports, a near-air mishap involving both her and her husband triggered a spike in her blood pressure, which subsequently affected her eyesight.

A source who spoke with SaharaReporters said despite experiencing vision issues over time, Alakija turned to faith, focusing on her religious endeavours instead of pursuing medical treatment.

It would also be recalled that Alakija, a devout Christian, has long been involved in ministry work, founding the Rose of Sharon Glorious Ministry International, which grew from a small fellowship in her home around 2004.

However, Alakija is yet to make an official statement on this development. Alakija, aged 73, built a business empire spanning the fashion, oil, real estate, and printing industries. She first gained prominence through her fashion venture, Supreme Stitches (later rebranded as The Rose of Sharon House of Fashion), designing for Nigeria’s elite.

However, it was her bold move into the oil sector that cemented her status as a billionaire. In 1993, she secured an Oil Prospecting License for a 617,000-acre offshore block in Nigeria’s Agbami Field through her company, Famfa Oil Limited.

Her health challenges add to a series of personal trials in recent years. In 2024, it was reported that Alakija and her husband, Modupe Alakija, faced a marital crisis after over 30 years of marriage.
