Nigeria’s apex bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), on behalf of the Debt Management Office (DMO), will reportedly auction N500 billion worth of Nigerian Treasury Bills (NTBs) across three maturities as part of the Federal Government’s bold reforms as well as domestic borrowing scheme.
The auction will reportedly cover 91-day, 182-day and 364-day Treasury Bills, according to an Invitation to Tender issued by the CBN. The auction is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, 2026, with Money Market Dealers requested to submit bids through the CBN S4 WEB INTERFACE between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
According to the schedule, the successful bidders will reportedly receive allotment letters on Thursday, September 10, while payment for successful bids is due by 11:00 a.m. the same day.
N500bn offer across three tenors, which is divided into the following format:
- 91-day Treasury Bills:N100 bn
- 182-day Treasury Bills:N100 bn
- 364-day Treasury Bills:N300 bn
The September 9 offer is lower than the N700 bn offers that featured in several of the CBN’s larger Treasury Bills auctions during the third quarter of 2026. According to report, dealers can submit multiple bids either for their own accounts or on behalf of non-Money Market Dealers and members of the public. The auction results are expected to be announced on September 9, while allotment and settlement will take place on September 10.
The latest auction comes days after the CBN’s September 2 Treasury Bills auction, at which the central bank allotted N865.71 billion, according to reports by Nairametrics.
Treasury Bills Auction Continues in Q3
The latest offer is part of the apex bank’s broader Treasury Bills issuance scheme for the third quarter of 2026. The quarter’s issuance scheme had targeted N5.8 trillion in gross Treasury Bills issuance between July and September, against about N2.64 trillion in maturities during the period.
Recall that the apex bank utilizes Treasury Bills as part of its federal government securities and liquidity-organizational schemes. According to reports, securities are short-term instruments issued by the Federal Government of Nigeria via apex bank.
