Less than 48hours President Mohammadu Buhari made pronouncement that the old ₦500 and ₦1,000 notes would ceased to be legal tender, some unknown persons in the early hours of Friday, took to the streets in Ikorodu, a Lagos suburb, barricading major roads with burn fire and destroying properties as a protest to the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN’S demonetisation policy.

The rampaging persons who were armed with sticks and broken bottles, set the Mile 12 police station ablaze, leaving commuters to scamper for safety.

At Ketu, Ojota, the protesters barricaded the major highways with burn fire.
The violence also dovetailed to Ikorodu round about and other communities as Odogwuya, Itamaga and Maya as most makeshift wooden stalls were set ablaze by the protesters.

The violent protests eventually spread to other parts of Lagos as Agege, Ipaja, Ogba among others.

The Lagos State police command spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin who the reports, said police officers have been deployed to keep the peace in affected areas.

As at press time, military officers were seen parading the Maryland, Ojota, Ketu, Ikorodu axis to maintain orderliness.
