The All Progressives Congress, (APC) National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, has said that the party cannot continue to make its choice out of sentiments or other primordial considerations.
Adamu who had earlier announced Ahmad Lawan as the APC’s consensus candidate –triggering controversy– called for a compromise to be reached on all fronts, while speaking on Tuesday at the ongoing special convention of the party in Abuja, where delegates are set to elect the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 poll.
This, he stresses is the bedrock of democracy, which everybody including delegates and aspirants should not be afraid to imbibe.
He said; “We cannot continue to make our choice out of sentiments or other primordial considerations. That will only invoke in us a wrong choice that we might regret.
“In the course of this decision making, we need to be called upon to make compromises to achieve our goals and objectives as a party.
“Democracy, by its nature, permits such compromises in the spirit of give and take. Indeed, no human society can survive without compromises.
“Let us, therefore, not be afraid of making them with a clear conscience and sense of responsibilities,” he urged.
Senator Abdullahi Adamu asserted that President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor must be someone who shares his ideals and vision. Noting that Buhari’s successor must also be someone with the capacity to boost the nation’s economy and deliver good governance.
Adamu, a former governor of Nasarawa State, said the contest shouldn’t divide the APC adding that the healing process within the party was ongoing.
He said the contest for the presidency has heated the nation’s polity, adding that “We can do nothing if we are not united. We must put our house in order.”
