Canada has emerged as the best country in the world on a number of metrics, according to the 2021 Annual Best Countries’ Yearly Report.

Canada overtook Switzerland who had held the first position since 2017 in the report released by the US News & World Report, BAV Group, in conjunction with Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania.

According to the report, a total of 79 countries were examined, taking into consideration, economy, military presence, education, and quality of life.

No fewer than 17,000 individuals from 36 countries spread across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa were surveyed.

Also, 10,000 of those surveyed were described aa “informed elites”. Over 4,900 were “business decision-makers”, and the rest were considered general public.

The 2021 report also considered racial equity, commitment to social justice, adaptability, and commitment to climate goals.

However, Canada moved up from number two in 2020 to first place for best overall country.

It’s followed by Japan, Germany, Switzerland, and Australia. The United States comes in sixth place. Iraq came last at 78th place.

Canada is also perceived as having a good job market, caring about human rights and is committed to social justice.

On corruption, Canada emerged first as a country devoid of corruption with respect for property rights.

Moreover, the report also ranked Canada first in Quality of Life and Social Purpose.

It came in sixth place for Entrepreneurship, third for most business-friendly countries, and third in Agility.

Best overall country category: Canada, Japan, Germany, Switzerland and Australia.

Quality of life category- Canada, Denmark, New Zealand, Sweden and Netherlands.

Entrepreneurship category- Japan, Germany, United States, United Kingdom and South Korea.

Social purpose category: Canada, Denmark, New Zealand, Sweden and Netherlands.

Cultural Influence category: Italy, France, United States, United Kingdom and Japan.

Open for business (most business-friendly) category: Switzerland, Panama, Canada, Denmark and Sweden

Adventure (best to visit) category: Brazil, Italy, Spain, Greece, Thailand.

Power: United States, China, Russia, Germany, United Kingdom
Agility: United States, Australia, Canada, Germany, Singapore
