Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Sir Monday Uko yesterday told our reporter that he did not officially address the press on CAF Inspection team visit as it was not yet appropriate to do so.

“I don’t make comments on such thinks when they are not ripe. You only talk about things when it is in your hands. They only came for inspection and I will call a press conference when it is time to speak.”

Sir Monday Uko regretted that those who posted the CAF inspection team visit to Uyo did not have his authority.

CAF Inspection team headed by Inas Ahmed made a tour of facilities in Uyo including the Nest of Champions – Godswill Akpabio International Stadium ahead of a possible hosting of CAF Champions League finals in Uyo.

Reports from local press said Ahmed and his delegation were pleased with the quality of natural grass seen at the stadium, also visited by the delegation were, Victor Attah International Airport, Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resorts and Ibom Specialist Hospital.

If approved, it is certainly going to boost both economic and football profile of Uyo and Akwa Ibom State, South Africa Football Association had also presented a proposal to host the 2022 CAF Champions League Finals scheduled for May 29th 2022.

So far, CAF is yet to make official statement about designated venue for Africa’s biggest club football event.
