US lawmakers escalate Christian genocide narrative, accuse Nigeria of downplaying targeted killings

By Obinna Uballa The Nigerian government’s push to counter the Christian-genocide narrative promoted by the Donald Trump administration appears to be gaining little traction, as United States lawmakers have forcefully rejected Abuja’s position on alleged targeted killings of Christians during a rare joint congressional briefing on 'escalating religious violence in Nigeria.' As part of his last-minute functions, President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday led President-elect, Bola Tinubu on a brief tour of parts of the presidential villa, Abuja.

The duo had observed their Friday prayers in the presidential villa mosque before checking out some departments that are key to the workings of the presidency.

Buhari led him through the Council Chamber and exited at the press gallery where journalists had waited in anticipation to ask him final questions before his exit on Monday.

The State Chief of Protocol (SCOP), Ambassador Lawal Kazaure, explained the functions of the press gallery to both leaders before they walked past the waiting reporters.

Recall that on Thursday, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo had done a similar thing taking the Vice-President-elect, Kashim Shettima, on a familiarisation tour of his office at the presidential villa, Abuja.

The former Borno State governor thereafter in a chat with correspondents pledged to hit the ground running after swearing-in.

Osinbajo received him around 4pm at the Vice president’s wing with the tour lasting for a little over an hour.

It would also be recalled that outgoing first lady, Aisha Buhari performed a similar function when she took wife of the President-elect, Senator Oluremi Tinubu on a familiarization tour of the presidential wing of the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja as their tour ends at the glass house, which is the exit point of outgoing President.
