President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday returned to Abuja after attending the United Nations Environmental Programme in Nairobi, Kenya.

Buhari who was initially scheduled to fly to United Kingdom from the Kenyan capital for his medical check-up, however, shelved the plan as contained in a press statement issued by the presidency.

The statement by presidential aide, Buhari Sallau disclosed that Buhari touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at about 1pm on Friday.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Abuja, after his participation in the 50th Anniversary of the UN Environmental Programme in Nairobi, Kenya,” Sallau said in the terse statement.

While in Kenya, Buhari participated in the Special Session to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the United Nation’s body.

The President also met with the Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Nairobi, Ibrahim Thiaw.

The New Diplomat recalls that Buhari on June 25, 2021 postponed a scheduled medical trip to UK due to an undisclosed reasons.

He later went for his routine check-up exactly one month after, on July 26, 2021.
