President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reappointment of Mr Joseph Chiedu Ugbo as the Managing Director of Niger Delta Power Holding Company, (NDPHC).

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, Office of the Vice President, Mr Laolu Akande, confirmed the development in a mail, Thursday.

Also, Mr Babayo Shehu and Ifeoluwa Oyedele’s tenures were also extended as Executive Directors of the company respectively.

The extension of their tenures will take effect from August 25, 2020 for a period of four years.

Ugbo is a legal practitioner and infrastructure regulations specialist with extensive experience in electricity industry reform and privatization.

He holds a Bachelor and Master of Law Degrees from the University of Lagos and was admitted to practice Law in Nigeria in 1991.

Before his first appointment in 2016, Ugbo had over 15 years of legal advisory services to public sector power entities including legal support to erstwhile National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) and to the Bureau of Public Enterprises during the privatization of the twenty successor companies of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

NDPHC is incorporated under the Companies and Allied Matters Act as a private limited liability company with shareholding fully subscribed to by the Federal, State and Local Governments with a mandate to manage the power projects tagged ‘National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP)’.

In 2019, Ugbo during a visit had told Lagos State governor that the company was set up in 2005 and had been designed to develop 10 projects, of which eight were currently working and two under construction.

”We have somewhere around 4,000 megawatts of capacity in the grid operating, unfortunately, not all the 4,000 can go to end-users, because of systemic challenges,” Ugbo said.

The appointment of three additional directors have also been approved for more effective and efficient coverage of the company’s areas of activity.
