President Muhammadu Buhari who arrived in London, Wednesday, ahead of the coronation of King Charles 111 on Saturday, May 6, was seen today receiving briefings about the ceremony.

Pictures released by the Presidency show President Buhari in blue caftan, flanked by members of his delegation, browsing through a copy of the programme of events lined up for him. Some of the people in the picture who were part of the President’s entourage include Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed; the National Security Adviser, Maj-Gen Babagana Monguno (retd.); and the Director General, National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Abubakar.

On the eve of the ceremony on Friday, the President is expected to attend the Commonwealth Summit for Presidents and Heads of Government of Commonwealth countries. An earlier statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, which was read on Wednesday, noted that the Commonwealth Secretariat will be taking advantage of the gathering of leaders in London to host a Summit on May 5.

Hundreds of world leaders are expected to grace the coronation of King Charles III and his wife, Camilla, as His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort of the United Kingdom respectively.

While most of these are already in London for the event which will take place at Westminster Abbey, two world leaders would however not be attending. President Joe Biden of the United States has already written that he would not attend though his wife, Jill Biden would be there.

Another world leader who would not be attending is the Russian President Vladimir Putin who has become a pariah of the Western world following his invasion of Ukraine.
