President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly ordered the disengagement of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Olonisakin, and the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas.

It was gathered that the President approved their disengagement in a letter sent to the Service Chiefs by the Minister of Defence, Brigdier General Mansur Dan-Ali (rtd), directing the Chiefs to handover on or before Friday, December 16.

Report says that both service chief have attained the official years of retirement from the military, hence, the directive by the President.

There are speculations that the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal S. Abubakar, may assume the position of the Chief of Defence Staff, while Air Vice Marshal James Gbum, a former President of a Special Court-Martial is to assume the position of Chief of Naval Staff, also in acting capacity.

The presidency is yet to make a public statement on the development.
