President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has stated that even his death would not halt the Union in their mission to ensure that pensioners in Imo State received what they were owed.
Accusing the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) of complicity in his assault, Ajaero condemned the union for remaining silent after his arrest and attack in the state.
He made this known at a press conference held at Abuja’s Labour House on Friday.
He said, “Not even my death could have stopped the struggle for the payment of those workers.
“Two TVC staff members were assaulted and handcuffed at the police station before the handcuffs were removed; are they also playing politics? But the TVC kept criminal silence over the assault of its staff, while their offence was to cover a protest.
“Why has the NUJ not said a word about the assault on journalists?”
He added that the National Labour Congress (NLC) is determined to continue the protest and strike until all of their demands are met.
“Nobody is backing out; the struggle continues,” he reiterated
After Ajaero was attacked in Imo State, TheNewDiplomat reported that the union had declared an indefinite strike in the state and a total shutdown of the nation on Tuesday, November 14.
It would be recalled that on Thursday, the NLC and its affiliates in the aviation sector disrupted activities at major airports in the country including the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Imo and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja.
Also, Imo State has been in total blackout as a result of the strike in the state.
