Some sporting activities have been postponed for a minimum of 24 hours as mark of last respect for Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Thursday, September 8 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

Following this, sporting activities have announced to hold a day of mourning for the Queen on Friday, September 9 2022.

The Scottish Professional Football League also said in a statement that Friday evening’s game between Cove Rangers and Dundee has been postponed.

An update on the weekend’s fixtures will follow on Friday.

It was learnt that several clubs will also hold urgent talks in the morning to decide whether play should resume at the weekend, with most hoping to do so depending on the public mood over the next 24 hours. Many are also encouraged by indications from the government that the palace is not keen to have a lengthy period without fixtures or events.

Also the third Test between England and South Africa and the PGA championship at Wentworth among the events to be paused for at least a day as a mark of respect.

Football officials revealed that, officials received guidance from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport only hours after the Queen’s death due to a fear of leaks, leaving them with little time to plan for the weekend.
