Soldiers were deployed on Tuesday after a passenger train traveling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed, sending several coaches off the tracks and triggering panic among commuters.

The incident occurred at Asham, a few minutes after the train departed Abuja at 9:45 a.m. Eyewitnesses said the derailment caused chaos as terrified passengers rushed out of the coaches, scrambling for safety.

“The train suddenly jerked, and before we knew it, some coaches had gone off the track. People were screaming and running,” an eyewitness recounted.

Although the exact cause of the accident remains unclear, security operatives, including soldiers, were swiftly mobilized to the scene to secure the area and assist in evacuating passengers.

As of press time, no official statement had been issued, and it was not immediately clear whether there were any casualties.
