The Imo state governor, Hope Uzodimma‘s house at his country home in Omuma, Oru East Local Government Area (LGA) of the state has been attacked and set ablaze by gunmen.
The gunmen also reportedly killed two security personnel attached to the building during the attack.
It was gathered that some hoodlums stormed the Governor’s house in the early hours of Saturday and razed down a section of the building.
Scores of the properties in the building were also destroyed.
Imo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Declan Emelumba while confirming the attack said: “It is true, but the information is not still clear.
“It’s not true that several security men lost their lives. About two security men on duty at the governor’s house were killed. NSCDC personnel were among the security men who lost their lives during the attack,” The Nation quoted Emelumba as saying.
However, the operatives of the fire fighters are already at the scene trying to extinguish the fire, as of the time of filing this report.
The Southeast region of Nigeria, particularly Imo State has been witnessing incessant attacks on public facilities especially police stations.
The New Diplomat had reported that hoodlums attacked the Imo State Police Headquarters and the Correctional facility on April 5.
According to the Nigerian Correctional Service(NCS), the hoodlums gained entrance into the facility using explosives to blast the entrance of the facility and subsequently released about 1, 884 inmates.
Recall that the immediate past Inspector-General Of Police(IGP), Mohammed Adamu, had alleged that the Eastern Security Outfit (ESN) of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are the ones who orchestrated the attack on the police facilities.
However, Uzodimma while speaking after his visit to President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, had said some aggrieved politicians are behind the recent attacks rocking the state.
According to the Governor, the objective of the politicians is to destablise his administration and the Southeast.
