The United Arab Emirates (UAE), has lifted the travel ban on Nigerian travelers after talks between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the UAE, on Monday in Abu Dhabi.
This means that the halt of flight operations by both Etihad Airlines and Emirates Airlines would resume immediately.
This was made possible after leaders of both countries had a healthy negotiation in resolving the travel ban.
It would be recalled in October 2022, The UAE imposed a visa ban on Nigerians shortly after the country’s airlines suspended flights to Nigeria following failure by the federal government to repatriate billions of dollars in trapped funds.
Monday’s deal does not involve immediate payment by the federal.
Another remarkable achievement derived from Monday’s talks between the two countries was the agreed multi billion dollars investment in Nigeria by the UAE.
The investment will be across several sectors of the economy including defense, agriculture and others.
Both countries also agreed on having new foreign exchange liquidity programme which will be announced by the Nigerian government in the coming weeks.
The UAE president promised to foster a healthy bilateral relationship with Nigeria.
