Following massive public outcry, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate release of all the minors arrested and facing prosecution in court over their alleged involvement in the #EndBadGovernance protest.

The President also instructed the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to ensure the welfare and rehabilitation of the minors.

This development was announced by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who spoke to State House correspondents, in Abuja on Monday.

Idris also added that Tinubu has directed the commencement of an investigation into the situation.

According to him, the President has instructed that all the law enforcement agents involved in the arrest, detention and prosecution of the minors be investigated, and anyone found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary action.

It would be recalled that last Friday, 76 suspects, who are believed to be mostly minors, were arraigned in connection with the #EndBadGovernance protest, which was held from August 1 to August 10, 2024. Six of them collapsed and were rushed out of the courtroom.

Following their arraignment, the court granted each minor bail at N10 million, a development which sparked further widespread outrage.
