President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that Nigeria’s Super Falcons, the country’s senior women’s national football team, will be conferred with prestigious national honours following their triumphant victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The team’s 3-2 win against Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses in Rabat secured their record-extending 10th continental title, sparking nationwide celebrations and earning them this distinguished recognition.

The announcement came during a grand reception at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where President Tinubu hosted the victorious squad.

The Super Falcons, led by captain Rasheedat Ajibade, were lauded for their resilience, skill, and determination in overcoming a two-goal deficit to clinch the title in a thrilling final.

Tinubu also announced the award of the Naira equivalent of $100,000 to each of the 24 players, $50,000 to the technical team.
