The Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora, Niger State, Alhaji Saidu Umaru Namaska, has passed away at the age of 84 years.

It was gathered that the 84-year-old monarch died at an Abuja Hospital.

The cause of his death remains sketchy as no official statement has been released by the family or palace as of press time.

The demise of the monarch comes three months after some unidentified bandits gunned down his son, Alhaji Bashar Saidu Namaska, during an attack on the monarch’s farm.

Born in 1937, Namaska was coronated as the Sarkin Sudan of the Kontagora on 15 January 1974 as the sixth emir of Kontagora.

The Sarkin Sudan started his education at Bida Middle School and obtained a BSc degree at Ahmadu Bello University. He began his career as an officer in the Nigeria Police Force in 1961, and rose to become a judicial of North-Western State before his retirement.
