The Supreme Court, on Wednesday has affirmed the victory of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State in the October 10, 2020 governorship election.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Eyitayo Jegede had filed a suit at the Supreme Court, to challenge the decision of the Court of Appeal which validated the victory of Akeredolu in the poll.

Recall that on July 16, 2021, Justice Theresa Orji-Abadua of the Court of Appeal declared Akeredolu as the winner of the 2020 gubernatorial election, dismissing the petition filed by Jegede.

Jegede who was not satisfied with the decision approached the apex court to overturn the decision of the Election Petition Tribunal and Appeal Court.

The apex court in its ruling, Wednesday upheld the re-election of Akeredolu in the Ondo State governorship election.
