The disclosure was made by the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide on Monday.
The Yoruba group in the statement issued by its spokesperson, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye, confirmed the embattled activist was released on Monday to its leader, Prof. Banji Akintoye and a French Language Expert, Wale Adeniran.
The statement reads: “Yoruba Nation Activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, fondly called Sunday Ighoho, has been released by the Government of Republic of Benin.

But, a legal counsel to Igboho, Mr Yomi Alliyu, SAN, was quoted by Vanguard as saying, his client has not been freed but was only released to seek medical attention in a Beninese Hospital.
“Igboho has not been released, he was only released to be taken to the hospital. The last time we spoke, I told you that we are making arrangements to take care of his health. So, he was released based on health grounds,” Alliyu was quoted as saying.
Recall that the 48-year-old activist and his wife were arrested on Monday, July 19, 2021, at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, the Benin Republic while attempting to flee to Germany.
Though Ropo was later released after the court found out that she had not committed any offence, Igboho, on his part was remanded in the custody of Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou, Benin Republic, pending the outcome of investigation conducted on the allegations against him.
