Human Rights activist, Omoyele Sowore and a journalist with the African Independent Television (AIT), Dickson Iroegbu have been released by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The duo were earlier arrested at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The New Diplomat reports the activist was at the court to observe the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the case involving five #BuhariMustGo protesters arrested at Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Abuja by the Department of State Services (DSS).

A source said that the security operatives manhandled Sowore before carting him away.

Sowore also told reporters that he was brutalized by the police during his arrest and taken to the Federal Secretariat police station.

“I have just been arrested by the Nigerian Police at the Federal High Court. Subjected to beatings by police officers and taken to the Federal Secretariat police station,” he said.

It was reported that armed operatives beat him up and bundled him into a vehicle alongside the cameraman who was livestreaming for him.

Also, a photojournalist, Yusuf Bromley, who was with Sowore at the time had his camera seized but  he however managed to escape.
