The Senate on Wednesday commenced screening for Chairman designate, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Abdulrasheed Bawa.
In his words, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan said, “the screening of the Chairman-designate of the EFCC will be done in plenary, in keeping with our tradition here and in particular, for thoroughness it requires.”
Lawan further directed the Sergeant-At-Arms to ensure the distribution of Bawa’s curriculum vitae made available to all Senators present ahead of the confirmation hearing.
Bawa was invited into the Senate Chambers following a motion raised by the Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi.
The EFCC Chairman nominee entered into the Chambers in company of Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Babajide Omoworare.
In addition, a delegation of lawmakers from Kebbi in the House of Representatives and members of the Kebbi House of Assembly led by its Speaker were also admitted into the Senate chambers to observe the screening.
Senate President, Lawan said the confirmation exercise was important for the country.
He noted that the commission will have its own Chairman after years of operating with an Acting Chairman.
His statement reads: “This is very important for us and this country. For over six years, the EFCC has been presided over by an Acting Chairman.
“This exercise is to ensure that the Commission has a substantive Chairman.”
