Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has finally opened up on who ordered the put off of the Lekki Toll Gate floodlights on Tuesday night before unidentified soldiers opened fire on peaceful protesters.
Speaking on Arise News Television, he reiterated that he didn’t order the action, and that the facility was under a concession agreement.
He said the management of the Lekki Concession Company, headed by Mr Muhammad Mubashiru Hassan, are directly responsible for the action.
Admitting that he saw a letter, explaining the rationale behind the action by the management, Sanwo-Olu, said the company attributed its action to complaince with the Curfew Order.
The New Diplomat had reported that in a statement the management of Loatsad Promomedia Limited, who operates the billboards at the Lekki Toll Plaza, said it switched off the billboard, Tuesday, in line with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s curfew order.
“I do not have a direct control over Lekki Toll Gate because the facility is under a concession agreement, but I have received a letter from the company, saying the decision to off the light was due to attempt to comply and enforce the Curfew Order,” he said.
The Governor also explained that, contrary to the news making the rounds, the alleged security cameras that were removed prior the Tuesday night shooting at Lekki Toll Gate, “were actually Infrared Cameras that captures vehicle details and number plates.
“They are not security cameras. The security cameras are intact and still there. They are stationed at the rooftop. And they are still working,” he explained.
Responding to questions, the Governor promised that his Panel of Enquiry would look into the footages of the cameras at the facility and make appropriate recommendations.
According to him, “I can assure you, we will look at all the footages and make appropriate recommendations. The investigation would be thorough and unbiased as experts are being drafted on the team,” he added.
