In the light of the excitement following the Super Eagles’ 2-0 victory over the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the round of 16 match of the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast on Saturday, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside prominent figures have commended the Nigerian team for their exceptional performance.

The New Diplomat reports that the Super Eagles booked their quarterfinals ticket following their victory against Cameroon on Saturday night.

The two goals were scored by Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman in the 36th and 90th minute.

Commending the team, Sanwo-Olu took to his verified X handle to praise Ademola Lookman for his brace.

The Lagos State Governor urged the team to maintain the momentum as they prepare for the next round of the competition.

He wrote, “I totally enjoyed the Super Eagles’ incredible display of teamwork and determination tonight against the team from Cameroon.

“From Osimhen’s hard work to Lookman’s brace to Ekong and Bassey’s very solid performances as well as Nwabali’s solidity, kudos to the entire team.

“Onto the quarterfinals! Let’s carry this momentum forward, Super Eagles. Best of luck in the next round, and may our journey in #TotalEnergiesAFCON2023    continue to shine bright.”

The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso wrote,” Fantastic performance, Super Eagles. Let’s go and show Angola the difference.”

Also, Arsenal legend and former Super Eagles player Kanu Nwankwo stated that the victory was made possible through combined effort.
