Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state on Monday met with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar in Abuja.

The New Diplomat gathered that Atiku, alongside other PDP chieftains arrived at the private residence of Wike in Abuja, at about 12 noon on Monday. Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose was also present at the meeting.

During the closed-door meeting, it was reported that Atiku and Wike ironed out their differences and made commitment to support each other to ensure the PDP get power in the 2023 presidential election.

Atiku won the presidential primary election of the PDP in Abuja over the weekend.

Atiku polled a total of 371 votes to defeat Wike who polled 237 votes.

Many political analysts had pointed out that Atiku’s victory was aided by the withdrawal of Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto from the presidential race, hours to the commencement of delegates’ voting.

Wike, who had a strong showing on the night, had given Atiku a run for his money, until Tambuwal dropped a bombshell by supporting Atiku’s bid against Wike’s, said to be his strong political ally in the South.

It would be recalled Wike had heavily backed Tambuwal’s presidential bid during the PDP primary in Port Harcourt in 2019 before this latest act by the latter being termed as political betrayal.

More to come soon…
