Sean Connery—the Oscar-winning Scottish screen icon who originated the role of James Bond in the long-running film franchise—has died about two months after celebrating his 90th birthday.
The Scottish actor was best known for his portrayal of James Bond, being the first to bring the role to the big screen and appearing in seven of the spy thrillers.
Sean died overnight (October 31) in his sleep, while in the Bahamas. It is understood he had been unwell for some time.
Sir Thomas Sean Connery was born on 25th of August 1930.
His other films included, Just Cause, The Hunt for Red October, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and The Rock.
He was largely regarded as being the best actor to have played 007 in the long-running franchise, often being named as such in polls.
He was an actor and producer who won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards, and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award. Connery was the first actor to portray the character James Bond in film, starring in seven Bond films, between 1962 and 1983.
His Oscar came in 1988, when he was named best supporting actor for his role as an Irish cop in The Untouchables.
