Reacting to reports on the abduction of two journalists and their families earlier on Sunday, the Kaduna State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condemned the action as unacceptable and dishonorable .

In a press release signed by both Comrade Asmau Halilu, Chairman of the Council, and Comrade Gambo Sanga, Secretary, respectively, the union called on all state security outfits to act quickly and ensure the safety and release of the abducted journalists and their families.

According to the statement, the NUJ expressed grave concern over the unsavory event that occurred late Saturday when suspected bandits reportedly kidnapped Alhaji AbdulGafar Alabelewe and AbdulRaheem Aodu, reporters for The Nation and The Blueprint Newspaper, respectively.

An eyewitness, Taofeeq Olayemi, reported that the journalists’ families also fell victim to the unfortunate incident while at home on Saturday evening. He stated that the abduction began around 10:30 pm in the Danhonu community located in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

At the time of this report, no official information had been issued regarding any rescue efforts initiated by the kaduna state police command or security agencies.
